The Seventh World Congress on Biosensors
Kyoto,Japan 15-17 May 2002
Format of the Congress
Biosensors 2002 is a three-day event consisting fo daily plenary presentations followed
by parallel sessions. In addition to invited lectures, selected
oral contributions will be included in the plenary session.Parallel
sessions comprising a refereed selection of submitted papers
describing original work will be structured as 7 symposia:
1.
Nucleic acid sensors & DNA chips
2.
Immunosensors
3.
Enzyme-based biosensors
4.
Organism-and whole cell-based biosensors
5.
Natural & synthetic receptors for biosensors
6.
Bioclectronics & microanalytical systems
7.
Commercial developments and markets
Biosensors are defined as analytical devices
incorporating a biological material (eg tissue, microorganisms, organelles, cell
receptors,enzymes,antibodies,nucleic acids etc),a biologically
derived material or biomimic intimately associated with
or integrated within a physiochemical transducer or transducing
microsystem,which may be optical,electrochemical,thermonmetric,piezoelectric
or magnetic.Biosensors ususlly yield a digital electronic
singnal which is proportional to the concentration of a
specific analyte or group of analytes. While the signal may
in principle be continuous, devices can be configured to
yield single
Measurements to meet specific markes requirements.
Biosensors have been applied to a wide
variety of analytical problens in medicine, the environment, food, process
industries, security and defence. The emerging field of bioelectronics
seeksto exploit biology in conjunction with electronics
in a wider context encompassing,for example,biomaterials
for information processing, information storage and actuators.A
key aspect is the interface between biological materials
and electronics.
In addition to mainstream papers the program
committee will acept contributions of obvious relevance
to he community, which describe important new concepts, underpin
understanding of the field or provide important insights
into the pracical design or application of biosensors and
bioelectronics.
Contributions from commercial organizations
are encouraged including detailed descriptions of development
programs and assessments of commercial opportunities. This
aspect will be supplemented by a display of commercial equipment.
Please prepare abstracts for oral and
poster contributions according to the guidelines overleaf. The
deadline for submission of abstracts is 14 December 2001.
Mini Symposium
In addition to the main Congress program
a mini symposium on Combinatorial and Molecular Imprinting
Design for Molecular Recognition will take place, chaired
by Prof Eiichi Tamiya,JAIST,Japan.
Biosensors
& Bioelectronics Award
The Biosensors & Bioelectronics
award will be presented to the author of the paper judged
the most original contribution to the congress.Finalists
for the award will be selected by the Program Committee
on the basis of the quality of submitted abstracts.Finalists
will be listed in the Program and Registration Brochure.
Congress Proceedings
All attending participants will receive
a book of refereed technical abstracts and a complimentary
copy of the Congress special issue of Biosensors &
Bioelectronics (Publisher:Elsevier Science).
The special issue of Biosensors &
Bioelectronicsdevoted to Biosensors 2002 will
contain selected papers prented at the congress.Full papers
should be submitted to the Assistant Editor:Dr David Cullen,Cranfield
University at Silsoe,Bedfordshire,MD454DT,UK.
Tel:+44(0)1525 863539;
Fax:+44(0)1525 863540;
Email:biosensors@cranfield.ac.uk to be
refereed in accordance with the high standards set by the
journal.
Please indicate clearly in writing that
the paper was presented at Biosensors 2002 on submission
of your paper.Inclusion in the program at Biosensors
2002 does not imply acceptance for publication.
The
deadline for receipt of full papers is 17 May 2002.However,authors
wishing to be considered for the Biosensors & Bioelectronics
Award need to submit their papers before 28 February
2002.
How to submit to abstract
Deadline
for submission:14 December 2001.
Abstracts
for both oral and poster presentation should be prepared
in English according to the following guidelines.
■
Please submit abstracts
electronically according to the guidelines below:
■
Abstracts should be submitted
in English by email or on disk(if email is not possible
)in one of the following formats:Microsoft Word 97(or
lower),WordPerfect,as a text attachment or in the body
of the mail message.A hard copy should be sent by mail.Faz
copies are not acceptalbe.
■
Use single line spacing
throughout, not exceeding 300 words including title, name(s)
of author(s) and affiliation(s).Make the title as concise
as possible. The abstract should not exceed one page in
length (including tables and figures).Photographs cannot
be accepted.
■
Indicate up 6 authors’names
and initials;if more than 6 use “et al”.Give the name
of the institution where the main work was done.
■
Indicate by(*)presenting
author(s).
■
Includde four keywords
describing key advances identified in the paper.
■
State for which symposium
the abstract is being submitted.
■
All abstracts wilol be
refereed and a criterion of rejection will be lack of
originality.A condition of submission,is that,if accepted,the
paper will be presented at Biosensors 2002 by the author
or one of the co-authors.
■
Submissions should include
a separate sheet giving full name, address, fax and e-mail
details of the submitting author. Please state whether
oral or poster persentation is preferred and the name
of the presenting author with contact details.
■
Oral and poster submissions
should include a statement that contributions contain
original,unpublished information.
■
Please note that each
participant is allowed noly one oral or poster presentation.
